Daisy Marisol Ujpan Yojcom is 19 years old and lives with her partner and 2 year old son in San Juan La Laguna. Her partner works in the fields while she makes traditional clothes in the home to earn money. Currently the family buys drinking water but Daisy expressed, “this is difficult because sometimes we don’t have the money to buy water.” When asked what difference having an Ecofiltro would have for her family Daisy commented, “it will help us more as we won’t need to buy water.”
Daisy has been involved with AMI San Lucas for 6 months and expressed, “AMI San Lucas has helped us with a lot of things. For example when my child is sick and I can’t afford the medicine he needs they help me to buy it.” When asked to describe her life in San Juan La Laguna she said, “San Juan La Laguna is a beautiful place but my life here is hard. I was living with my partner when I was 16 years old and had my baby when I was 17 years old. Having a child is a beautiful thing but it’s a big challenge and responsibility.”
Daisy expressed her thanks for the gift of the Ecofiltro and wanted to pass that thanks onto those who helped her to receive it. She has asked that people would pray for blessings for her family and for the health of her family.

Paulina De Miguel
Paulina De Miguel is 28 years old and is from San Juan La Laguna. She lives with her husband and their twin daughters aged 8 years old. Paulina is a house wife and her husband is a fisherman. When commenting on their life in San Juan Laguna she said, “life is hard. There are times when there are no fish or there is a lot of wind so my husband can’t work. During these times he looks for other work for example construction, but we don’t have a secure monthly income.”
Currently the family buys their drinking water but Paulina commented that sometimes they don’t have the money to buy water which means they need to boil it, or if they drink dirty water they get sick. Discussing the Ecofiltro Paulina said, “I was surprised by this gift, a very big gift that I am very thankful for. This will help us to save money as we will no longer need to buy water.” Paulina asked that people would pray for her family, specifically for her children, their health and that her husband would find regular work with a secure monthly income. Currently the family rents their home but one day they would like to own their own home as this is more secure. At the end of the interview she commented, “we also will pray for those who have helped us to receive this Ecofiltro.”

Micaela Mendoza Chavez is 38 years old and lives in San Juan La Laguna. She currently lives with her parents and her 3 children – 13, 9 and 1 years old. Tragically her husband died in a road accident a few months ago while he was working. “My life in San Juan La Laguna is hard and sad”, said Micaela when describing her life after the death of her husband. “We used to be a complete family but now we no longer are. We are less stable economically because we no longer have the income from my husband. My parents help out a bit.” Currently Micaela sells eggs to earn a small income but has expressed the need to earn more money to support her family, however she can’t always leave the house as she still has a 1 year old to care for.
Micaela had been buying drinking water but expressed that sometimes this was hard to afford, especially after the death of her husband. When describing the expected impact of this Ecofiltro she commented, “I will no longer need to buy water which will help us economically and the children won’t be sick as we will always have clean water to drink.” Micaela had been involved with projects in AMI San Lucas in the past, describing how she got involved Micaela commented, “my first child was born premature and was in a state of malnutrition. AMI San Lucas helped me to learn how to care for her and give her good nutrition. After this I continued to be involved with AMI San Lucas and learned how to care for chickens and use them for an income, and I learned how to eat well and prepare good food for my family. They also helped me to get a latrine for my house.” She expressed her apprecation of the work of AMI San Lucas stating, “they are very good and are helping a lot of people.” She also expressed her thanks to those who made it possible for her to receive this Ecofiltro.
Micaela has asked that people would pray for her family, that God would give her strength and patience with her children and economic provision for her family.

Griselda Florentina Chamorro Yac
Griselda Florentina Chamorro Yac is 23 years old and lives in Pasajquim, a rural community of the municipality of San Juan La Laguna. Griselda is a single mother living with her 2 children aged 8 and 1.5 years old. She doesn’t work as she is looking after the home and her children.
Griselda has been involved with AMI San Lucas for just over 1 year and expressed that through her involvement she has learned many new things. When discussing how they currently access drinking water she explained, “I have to boil the water to make it safe to drink but this has an economic cost.” She has suffered from pneumonia and expressed that her family has had a number of illnesses affecting the stomach, cough and fevers. This Ecofiltro will enable the family to have readily available access to safe, clean, drinking water which will help improve their health as well as help financially.
Griselda Florentina Chamorro Yac tiene 23 años y vive en Pasajquim, una aldea del municipio de San Juan La Laguna. Doña Griselda es madre soltera que vive con sus 2 hijos de 8 y 1,5 años. Ella no trabaja mientras cuida el hogar y sus hijos.
